Responsibilities shared by all board members

All SNUG Board members contribute to the organization’s work throughout the year and support both board operations and the annual conference.

  • Attend monthly board meetings and additional planning meetings as scheduled
  • Participate in planning meetings leading up to the National Conference
  • Attend the National Conference, Annual Membership Meeting, and onsite board meetings
  • Assist with conference operations including registration, member support, event coordination, and wrap-up activities
  • Support communication and engagement across SNUG’s online platforms and community spaces

Board responsibilities may shift slightly from year to year based on the experience, interests, and needs of the current board.

OFFICERS

Officer roles

Officers provide leadership for the organization and oversee key operational areas that support SNUG’s mission, member engagement, and conference planning.

President

Leads the Board of Directors and oversees the organization’s overall operations and conference planning.

  • Leads board meetings and helps set priorities
  • Assigns responsibilities and coordinates board activities
  • Oversees member-facing communications and the President’s message
  • Manages relationships with partners and key vendors
  • Oversees National Conference planning, budgeting, and execution
  • Supports future conference site selection and contract planning

President-Elect

Prepares to assume the presidency while supporting conference planning and board initiatives.

  • Chairs the Nominations Committee
  • Coordinates presenter recruitment and orientation
  • Develops presenter materials and presentation templates
  • Supports conference promotion and future planning
  • Reviews member communications and outreach
  • Helps with site selection and conference planning coordination

Past President

Provides continuity and guidance based on prior leadership experience.

  • Supports the President and President-Elect as needed
  • Reviews and approves member communications
  • Assists with conference planning and networking events
  • Supports attendee materials and event logistics
  • Helps with future conference site selection

If the Past President position is vacant, these responsibilities may be shared by the President and President-Elect.

Treasurer

Manages the financial operations of the organization.

  • Manages bank and financial accounts
  • Maintains accurate financial records and reconciliations
  • Prepares financial reports for the Board and membership meetings
  • Oversees accounts payable and receivable
  • Supports conference registration and payment questions
  • Maintains tax records and required filings

Secretary

Manages organizational records and supports board communications and documentation.

  • Maintains current and historical organizational records
  • Records and distributes minutes from board meetings
  • Maintains official documents including bylaws, policies, and procedures
  • Supports conference communications and board documentation
  • Manages organizational email and file storage systems
  • Prepares materials for the Annual Membership Meeting
DIRECTORS-AT-LARGE

Directors-at-Large

Directors-at-Large support board committees, strengthen member communication, and help carry out operational and conference-related work across the organization.

  • Manage and support the membership database
  • Assist with membership recruitment and renewal communication
  • Help maintain the SNUG website and digital tools
  • Support online community spaces and member engagement platforms
  • Assist with communications, social media, and outreach
  • Support vendor coordination, schedules, and conference logistics
  • Contribute to member engagement initiatives and board committees

Directors-at-Large responsibilities may shift each year based on the board’s needs and the strengths of current directors.
